At this point, I have not made it completely official but I am intending on starting a video series called disability positivity. This is based on the places I visit where they are disability friendly. I have travelled to Europe and a few places have really shown how accepting they are towards people who are differently abled.
A while back I did a video on a trip I did where we went to Madeira Island and a company called The Magic Dolphin, gave me free access to there excursion to see under water marine life. This was the first time I had experienced any company doing such a thing. where they do not charge a person because of respective abilities. It is honestly so fair since we don’t always get the equivalent experience that all the able bodied customer would get.
This time however, I have come on a family holiday to Portugal. We have done so much sight seeing and have tried out some pretty awesome experiences. Two have classified under the series I will be posting about on my socials.
The first was a cable car ride, where they did not charge for me to ride the cable car. The other being a trip up one of the tallest towers, the Vasco da Gama Tower. a minute long elevator ride, up 145 meters and finally stopping at the best 360 degree aerial view of Lisbon.
Having a chance to talk about these kinds of places really gives me hope that more people will pick up on these trends. I want something like this to become a norm. People who are differently abled don’t have just any normal life since there are the added challenges. This is not to say that no one else has serious issues but sometimes its hard to have such a life change that is out of our control and totally irreversible. Since people cannot enjoy the view or complete experience like the abled bodied community, giving them a sense that they can still do it and benefiting them in their favor in terms of not charging, is a representation that the idea and fact that the experience is not the same is taken into account. It could be said that it is a way of giving back to the person who cannot experience things the same as everyone else. Not a symbol of pity but a sign of acknowledgement and empathy.
Diversity and Inclusion are about giving value to every human being, no matter or differences…
P.S. I received the link to the latest article I was published in, published in USA Today. It speaks very highly of inclusivity so I implore you to go take a look…
