This week we had a day to celebrate mental health and all it represents. It’s very important to have a day like this where people all over the globe can celebrate as one. Mental health is one of many topics which has a stigma and people are too shy or scared to get help for what they might be facing. Mental issues are seen as negative and harmful things. People are ashamed to admit it when they have a mental problem. The thing is, if people don’t admit it and find the help they need, this stigma will never end.

It is not a bad or embarrassing thing to ask for mental help. In fact, it shows the bravery and courage that one must look the problem in the face and fight it. It is never fair to be told that you have some or other mental issue but when and if it does get said to you, you should take it on straight away. Finding the help you need will always be a part of the process of fixing something. Of getting better. Getting to a state that you know you will find comfort in.  There is no point torturing yourself by putting yourself through something that can be rectified.

Some people are of the belief that once you have a mental issue, it never leaves. Well, I suppose it will always be a part of who you are, who you were, but it shapes you. It puts you through a struggle that proves the pain you can really handle and fight against. It brings out courage when you ask for help. Maintaining a great and balanced mental health is not always going to be easy if you are alone. You should ask for help and it will be easier to face. There is a quote that goes…

“If I think, then I am.”

It is all down to the mindset of who and what you are capable of. You don’t need to be made of steel, you can show pain. You can show fear, but if and when you need a helping hand, ask for it. It doesn’t make you less of a person. It doesn’t mean you are weak. It just means that you are ready to fight, full force.

“It’s healthy to admit you’re not ok.  It’s OK not to be OK.  It’s BRAVE!  BUT DON’T LET IT WIN.  Be Sad.  Have your moment.  Your day, or week.  Then DO something about it and be happy.  FOR YOURSELF.” – Jessie J
