I’m a huge music nerd, as some of you knob. Part of my daily routine is listening to music and totally jamming it out. It can be slow songs to pop songs. Just dancing or karaoke in the shower. Anyways, I was listening to some music and the song by Passenger came on…
‘Let Her Go’
After the song reached its end, I thought about the lyric’s and something hit me. What he was saying was totally relevant to pretty much everyone… I’m not going to type his whole song here to make my point but for you to better understand what I am saying I suggest you take a listen if you haven’t already.
To sum up the meaning behind the words he is singing, well it is quite easy. Passenger basically points out the fault that most of us are unaware of. That being, we sometimes take things for granted and it can be a simple thing like “the sun when it starts to snow”. We tend to not always show appreciation or adore things with all our being when that’s what we should be doing. Some people value the smallest of things and others think they are crazy for doing that. The problem is, if you can’t find the special value in something like a teddy bear that kept you safe at night when you were little. How will you be able to value something as huge as the latest BMW you just managed to get your hands on.
I might have said it before and I’ll say it until get becomes THE most monotonous thing in history, but it is the small things that make us who we are. The little things that give us our quirks. The finer detail that shapes us into our own unique person.
Passenger passes out so many examples of things that we come across everyday but if it goes missing… what then… will we notice. Will it hit how much you actually appreciate it when its too late. When you wonder through life, trying to figure out what and who you are, pay attention to EVERYTHING. Take note of those small things that might actually be the one thing that’s keeping you going. The one thing that you know will NEVER disappear, until it does.
Now I know you probably expecting me to go all, “yeah lost my eyesight and that’s an example of things we never actually appreciate.” But no, I’m not trying to use that as an example. I was given a second chance however and I am definitely not going to waste it on putting my energy into the wrong things. I want to feel and appreciate the smell and texture of a flower petal. Value the sound of my own breathing as the bubbles comes out of my reg under water. Experience what colour I can make out in a sunrise or sunset and hearing nature around me whilst doing so.
Take a listen to passengers “Let Her Go’, think about all the things that you think you would miss if they had to disappear. Start paying attention to the right things you should be admiring. Never take things for granted, if you don’t give it the attention it deserves then you definitely will regret it later on.
“Gratitude is appreciation for every moment in your life. It is a feeling of abundance.” – Brenda Nathan.
