During interviews or speech presentations, I usually get the question of what or who motivates me. I always thought I did have a specific person or thing that kept me motivated but I think the truth is that I have trained myself to be disciplined over a couple of years. Since I have been in situations where I need to be quick thinking and always have backup plans for when I have events to go to and might lose my sighted guide. This is not to say that I don’t trust the person I am with because you know from past blogs that I have trust issues so I am very careful about that. The thing is, I have a click in my brain that makes me auto switch into a mode that allows me to plan and complete what I need to do.
To put it into a sentence that actually makes sense… I have a disciplined mindset that no challenge is too hard as there should always be another way around it. When I encounter different obstacles in life, I know that I will not give up until I accomplish what I set out for. There for I would say that I don’t necessarily have a motivation that keeps me going but mi disciplined in the way that I don’t allow myself to give up unless it is the last option.
I think all people should create a mindset such like the one I have learned to grow within myself. You don’t need to always be looking for motivation to ensure that you have no reason to give up. Whet we get a boost of motivation, the feeling can fade when life starts happening and things start to keep our minds off what the motivation started. But, if we are disciplined, we know that we have the power within ourselves to keep pushing no matter what. If we are cold, tired or even sad, we have to keep moving forward. I am really grateful that I have such a mind set as it allows me to continue through the easy and hard times without letting myself take the easy way out. My only hope is that many more people gain this mind set as the world is creating a sense of instant gratification being the best thing, but it doesn’t really push us to the limits we can test for ourselves. A form of discipline that lets us test what we are truly capable of doing and achieving with our own inner strengths and determination to achieve a lot more than we would except.
“Motivation may get you started BUT it takes discipline to KEEP you GOING!”
