The inspiration for this blog came at me out of nowhere. It was the last thing I thought would happen, If I am honest. It is ABSOLUTLY amazing though. A gentleman by the name of Luke Daniels who works for The Veterans Guide, from the USA got in touch with me during the course of this week and shared something quite incredible. He told me about the work and guidance that the advocacy center does, for veterans in the USA. I was highly intrigued thus I dug deeper into what they are about with the help of the link I was sent by said gentleman, I got a sneak peak into the detail of what this is all about. He kindly asked me to share it with you all, I had no hesitation to do so, in hopes of reaching many veterans out there needing guidance or assistance.
What the VA basically does, is assist the veterans that serve their country. These veterans, however, have visual disabilities like me. There are different qualifications that the veterans have to meet in order to apply for assistance. There are direct and indirect injuries that the veterans face when they promise to serve their country. Penetration to the eye or cataracts are examples of these injuries If and when the veterans face these injuries, causing chronic problems, the VA is there to offer assistance.
This is an admiral thing to be done for the brave people who are willing to give everything to serve their country. I implore you to go check out their website which I have attached. I think it is important to know that there is a backup like this for people who gain impairments. In this case, the vets fight in honour of their country, not foreseeing the injuries that will cross their paths in the battlefields. It is just as right to assist these extraordinary people as it is to serve their country.
As a disabled person myself, I know the true appreciation, gratitude and happiness that can come from any situation that aims at assisting the personal war you fight. Sometimes it feels like we fight the battle as a lone soldier but we should never forget that no army can fight without a strong team. Each vet that acquires the help that the VA provides is well aware of the team that is willing to fight and stand behind them during the new life battle they need to learn to manage. Hearing about this association gave me an unmeasurable amount of excitement, knowing that my fellow disabled community is able to get the assistance they deserve. Especially after the great life they have led as a brave fighter for their country. The VA gives veterans a voice and financial aid when they can.
“The veterans of our military services have put their lives on the line to protect the freedom that we enjoy. The have dedicated their lives to their country and deserve to be recognized for their commitment.” – Judd Gregg
